The final two concerts for pop band Coldplay are happening tonight and Saturday in Toronto.
Coldplay booked four shows at the new Rogers Stadium, located at the former Downsview Airport, at .
With limited parking areas nearby, concert organizer LiveNation is encouraging patrons to take transit. However, some fans are upset that the service isn’t addressing the needs of fans heading northbound after the shows.
TTC, GO Transit offer free transit, late trainsÂ
Both TTC and GO Transit have offered free service after the concert to patrons.
The TTC added extra trains 90 minutes before and after the concert for guests.
Metrolinx — the parent company of GO Transit — also added three extra late-night trains from . But the trains are only going southbound.
For fans north of the city, GO Transit has been unable to accommodate additional transit needs.
The last northbound GO train leaves at 11:13 p.m. — essentially 10 minutes after the concert ends.
That doesn’t provide enough time to walk to Downsview Park station from the venue, especially with 50,000 fans pouring out at the same time.
“How can you have ZERO northbound trains after the show is over? 11:15 (sic) is a crazy time. There is no way you can take the Barrie line to the show if you need to go northbound without leaving the show before completion,†.
Another posting:
“It is honestly ridiculous that you STILL refuse to help the people going north on this line post show. Are you aware that not everyone going to shows is going to Toronto? Or do only Toronto bound attendees matter. How are we to count on transit that won’t listen to or help us?†.
The comment that caught the most attention this week was from poster , who responded to GO Transit on X after leaving Tuesday night’s show.
“The last northbound train was at 11:13 last night we had to leave early — the show was still going — and run and run and just made it on.â€
Metrolinx apologizes after AI responseÂ
GO Transit responded with, “Sounds like Ange had a dramatic dash to catch that last northbound GO train at 11:13 p.m. That’s cutting it close!â€
Many thought the callous response sounded like something from an artificial intelligence source.
“Responses are written by humans, not bots or AI generated,†Metrolinx media relations said in an email response to Metroland Media.
“In this case, a reply was inappropriately drafted by our vendor using AI. We recognize that we did not meet our customer support standards, and we have provided clear direction to our vendor that AI cannot be used under any circumstances.
“We apologize for any confusion this might have caused our customers.â€
Concert goers north of the city also noted GO Transit also doesn’t offer direct trips to the venue in the afternoon.
“ … what about SB trains after 4 p.m.? I’m happy to take transit to/from the venue but you guys aren’t making it easy for people north of the city,†.
Metrolinx briefly explained logistical challenges may be behind the lack of service for northern patrons.
“There is a single track at Downsview Park GO and demand for additional service is highest going southbound from Downsview Park,†the company said.
“For customers heading northbound, connections can be made to TTC services at Downsview Park station, to connect to Highway 407 station or Vaughan Metropolitan Centre station.â€
Northern fans who want to stay for the full concert have little option but to drive to one of those TTC terminals, and take the subway to either , or .
Rogers Stadium has . Follow the posted signs to make your way to the venue.
