Victoria Day is on Monday, May 19 and the holiday is often referred to as the unofficial kickoff to summer.

It’s unlikely Queen Victoria knew that when she gave her royal assent to create Canada that our true north strong and free nation would forever celebrate her birthday with a long-weekend summer kickoff party often referred to as May 2-4.

It is known as the May 2-4 weekend since it marks the unofficial start of the cottage season and kick off to summer, which usually comes with a few cases of beer (a.k.a. 2-4s), and because May 24, 1819 is Queen Victoria’s birthday.
