Toronto’s favourite barbarian band, , are travelling through time to perform that night, and synth player Greg Dalgetty said their music may not be what you expect.
“It’s goofy and ridiculous.†he said. “It’s just totally unpretentious, utterly ridiculous fun. We look like a metal band, but we play songs that sound like they would be right at home in a retro video game.â€

Dalgetty said they play instrumental music that’s popular with audiences of all ages. They play original music and some fun theme songs, too. He has been in other bands, but none had the loyal fans that this one does.
“We just did this tour in Montreal and someone from Halifax came all the way, specifically to see us,†Dalgetty said. “Someone made the trip all the way wearing his Conan gear and bringing a Conan book and got us to sign it. I’m really grateful.â€
He said the band is excited to play in öÏÓãÊÓƵapp for the first time and hopes to draw a crowd.
Dalgetty admits that barbarians didn’t really take over medieval times, but since their last album was called “Temporal Vortex,†this allowed them to go anywhere, any time. In fact, their fifth album, “Battle for the Planet of the Dinosaurs,†will really take them back. He said they also plan to feature ancient Egypt in their music.
“We’re embracing anachronisms wherever we can, and there’s plenty of them,†Dalgetty said.
He thinks a big part of the appeal of Thunder Glove is their costuming and a renewed public interest in swords and sorcery.
If you can’t make it to see them on Friday, July 11 at the pub night, you can check out and stream them wherever you listen to music.
