Canadian mystery writer Linwood Barclay , the horror novel “Whistle,” about an evil model train set.Ìý
If reaction was positive, he said, “then I’ll probably do more of this, but if it sinks like a stone, it will probably be the last of its kind. I think it’s the best book I’ve ever done.â€
It looks like the risk has paid off, at least so far, with Barclay’s book landing at No. 8 on the original fiction list and No. 3 on the Canadian fiction list. Choo choo.
Sticking with Canadian authors, Margaret Atwood‘s perennially popular “The Handmaid’s Tale” fell off the Canadian fiction list earlier this month after a long stretch that began in November, following the re-election of U.S. President Donald Trump. Now the dystopian 1985 novel is back on the list at No. 7.
My guess? It was propelled there by I recommend both the book and the final episode, currently streaming on Crave and Prime Video. Make sure you have tissues nearby.
One other TV-book connection to note: American-Canadian author Robert Munsch‘s “Love You Forever” is back on the children’s and young adult list just days after its cover appeared in the season finale of The character of Ellie (Bella Ramsey) spots the 1986 picture book among a collection of kidlit in an abandoned Seattle bookstore.
