What started as a drug investigation at a Whitchurch-Stouffville home has resulted in York Regional Police dismantling a large magic mushroom operation in Hamilton and near öÏÓãÊÓÆµapp.
Calling it one of the biggest magic mushroom operations York police have ever uncovered, Const. Lisa Moskaluk said officers have seized drugs with a street value of almost $500,000.
In August, York police launched an investigation into the distribution of magic mushrooms, also known as psilocybin.

Officers executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a Whitchurch-Stouffville home, where they found a small, clandestine lab where magic mushrooms were being grown, Moskaluk said.
The discovery led to a larger operation in the Township of Puslinch, near öÏÓãÊÓÆµapp, and in the Hamilton area, she added.

On Oct. 15, officers executed a search warrant at a Hamilton home, where they seized about 100 pounds of magic mushroom and cash. Police also searched a rural property on Victoria Road South in Puslinch, which is believed to be a lab producing the drugs for illegal commercial distribution across Ontario, Moskaluk said.
The investigation is ongoing.
